The Congress party is set to kick off its campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections with a major rally in Barnala. The event, titled “MNREGA Bachao, Kisan Bachao,” will be attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi, who are scheduled to address a large public gathering. The rally is primarily being organized to protest against alleged attempts to weaken or end the MNREGA law, which the party claims is crucial for rural employment and farmers’ welfare. Congress leaders are expected to outline their vision for Punjab while targeting the central government’s policies on employment and agriculture. This marks a significant political move as the party intensifies its preparations for the upcoming state elections. Earlier, Congress had organized a “Kisan Maha Chaupal” in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, signaling a broader outreach strategy focused on farmers and rural voters. With top leadership present in Barnala, the rally underscores Congress’s effort to strengthen its grassroots connect and mobilize support ahead of the 2027 electoral battle in Punjab.
