Protest Alert: Clash Erupts at Jawaharlal Nehru University Over UDC Rules

Violence broke out at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi amid protests against the implementation of new UDC (University Development Code) regulations. Demonstrating students allegedly broke through multiple layers of police barricades at the campus main gate. According to Delhi Police, around 51 protesters were detained after they allegedly attempted to force their way out of the campus during a planned “Long March.” Police stated that students were repeatedly requested to hold protests peacefully within campus premises, but some protesters allegedly attacked personnel and damaged barricades, resulting in injuries to several officers. A case has also been registered. However, students have accused the police of misconduct and physical assault, claiming they were peacefully protesting their legitimate demands when force was used against them. They also alleged that detained students were taken to undisclosed locations. The university administration has termed the protest an attempt to create pressure, while tensions remain high on campus following the confrontation.
