Volvo Car India on Wednesday clarified that customers in India remain unaffected by the ongoing global recall of the EX30 electric SUV, even as concerns around battery safety have surfaced in select international markets.

“We would like to clarify that no customers in India are impacted in this EX30 recall. Volvo Car India continues to uphold its commitment to maintaining high standards of product quality and customer service across all its operations,” the company said in a statement.

The clarification comes in the wake of reports highlighting a recall of certain Volvo EX30 units overseas due to a potential battery-related fire risk. According to a report by Reuters, the recall was initiated after the automaker identified a possible defect in the high-voltage battery pack that, under specific conditions, could increase the risk of overheating.

The issue prompted precautionary corrective measures in affected markets, reinforcing the industry-wide sensitivity around EV battery safety and compliance.

However, Volvo Car India has emphasised that the units allocated to the Indian market are not part of the impacted batch. This reassurance is significant, especially at a time when consumer confidence plays a pivotal role in the adoption of electric vehicles.

The EX30, launched in India in 2024, marks Volvo’s most compact and accessible all-electric SUV offering in the country. Positioned as a premium urban EV, the model is built on the company’s dedicated electric platform and is globally recognised for its minimalist Scandinavian design, advanced safety suite, and strong performance credentials. Internationally, the EX30 is offered with multiple battery options and competitive range figures, aligning with Volvo’s broader electrification strategy.

In India, the Volvo EX30 is offered with a 69 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, claims a WLTP range of up to 480 km on a single charge. The electric SUV supports DC fast charging, enabling a 10–80 per cent charge in roughly 28 minutes, positioning it competitively within the premium compact EV space.

Launched at an introductory ex-showroom price of around ₹41 lakh, with early pre-reservation offers closer to ₹39.99 lakh, the EX30 represents Volvo’s most accessible all-electric SUV in the Indian market, aimed at strengthening its premium EV portfolio.

The model is curated to appeal to younger, urban buyers seeking a premium yet relatively compact electric SUV with a strong sustainability narrative. Watch our review of the Volvo EX30 to know more.
