Who is Arvind KC? OpenAI names Indian-origin executive as Chief People Officer

OpenAI, the American artificial intelligence research organisation behind ChatGPT, has appointed Arvind KC as its new Chief People Officer, the company announced in a press release.In his new role, KC will be responsible for shaping how OpenAI manages its workforce as it grows. This includes overseeing hiring, onboarding, employee development, performance management and organisational systems and policies that support collaboration and high performance across the company.OpenAI said the appointment comes at an important time, as AI continues to change how work is done and as the company expands rapidly amid rising competition for technology talent in Silicon Valley.KC steps into the position following the departure of the previous Chief People Officer, Julia Villagra, who left the company in August 2025 after less than six months in the role.Career and backgroundArvind KC brings more than 25 years of experience in technology and people leadership to his new role. Before joining OpenAI, he served as Chief People and Systems Officer at Roblox, a huge gaming platform, where he led workforce strategy and internal systems. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership roles at major US technology companies, including Google, Palantir Technologies, and Meta Platforms. At Palantir, he worked as Chief Information Officer and head of people operations, overseeing technology strategy and organisational systems. At Google, he served as vice-president of engineering, where he led product development initiatives focused on enterprise tools.KC’s professional experience spans internal product development, information technology, information security and engineering leadership, combined with organisational design and workforce management.He began his career in supply chain systems within the semiconductor industry, gaining early expertise in operational processes before moving into broader technology and people management roles.KC holds an MBA from Santa Clara University in the United States and a degree in chemical engineering from a university in India.Role at OpenAIBased in the San Francisco Bay Area, where OpenAI is headquartered, KC will report to the company’s leadership team and help ensure that the organisation’s people processes and policies align with its goals. OpenAI said his leadership will be central to maintaining the company’s culture while enabling it to scale effectively.Fidji Simo, Chief Executive Officer of Applications at OpenAI, said in the company’s announcement that KC’s appointment is intended to ensure OpenAI’s internal systems match its ambitions as it builds and grows.OpenAI has been expanding its workforce and product offerings in recent years as AI tools become more integrated into business and daily life.
