Priyanka Chopra hails ‘Boong’ after its BAFTA win: ‘Stories like these deserve to be celebrated’

‘Boong’, directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, becomes India’s first film to win a BAFTA in Best Children’s and Family Film. Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Guneet Monga celebrated the Manipur-set family tale starring Gugun Kipgen.

‘Boong’, directed by Lakshmipriya Devi and starring Gugun Kipgen, has created history by becoming the first Indian film to win a BAFTA award in the Best Children’s and Family Film category. Following Boong’s big win at the BAFTA Awards, Priyanka took to her Instagram stories to congratulate the team behind the film. Tagging the makers, she wrote, “Congratulations! Incredible work.” Sharing another story, the actress expressed how meaningful such films are, writing, “Stories like these deserve to be seen, celebrated and remembered. Congratulations Lakshmipriya Devi and the entire team of Boong on this incredible BAFTA win.”

Alia joined in the celebration by reposting a message from her production house, Eternal Sunshine, which read, “What a proud moment for Indian cinema. Congratulations to the entire team!” She added a short yet powerful note, “Historic.” Kareena Kapoor Khan also expressed her excitement over Boong’s victory, writing, “Absolutely brilliant and many congratulations! #Boong.” Adding to the praise, Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga shared an inspiring message: “This belongs to every woman who refused to wait for permission. Lakshmipriya’s BAFTA win, earned with grit and brilliance, is a reminder that the future of Indian cinema is female, because women are already building it.”

Boong’s emotional story

‘Boong’ is set in Manipur and tells a heartfelt story about love, family, and hope. It is about a young boy named Boong, played by Gugun Kipgen, who wants to bring his family back together. He lives with his single mother, Mandakini, played by Bala Hijam Ningthoujam, and goes on a journey with his best friend to find his missing father.
