In his first response following the controversy over former Army chief General Naravane’s book, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said there will be no ban on former Army chiefs writing books.
He dismissed as “absolutely false” reports claiming that military officers would not be allowed to write any book until 20 years after retirement.
‘Reports Are Completely Incorrect’
Addressing the issue, Singh clarified that there is no such restriction in place and that the reports suggesting a 20-year embargo on retired officers authoring books are incorrect.
His remarks come in the backdrop of the recent debate surrounding the publication of the former Army chief’s book.
Background To The Row
The clarification follows controversy linked to the book authored by former Chief of Army Staff General Naravane. Reports had suggested that serving and retired military personnel could face restrictions on writing about their experiences for up to two decades after retirement — a claim the Defence Minister has now categorically rejected.
