Namita Thapar urged women to prioritize muscle health during perimenopause.

Shark Tank India judge and entrepreneur Namita Thapar took to Instagram to share a deeply personal health journey that many women go through, but few openly discuss: perimenopause. The 48-year-old revealed that she had been experiencing the transition for the past three years, calling it “a very tough phase for women.”

Taking to her Instagram, Namita Thapar admitted that the onset of perimenopause at 45 brought with it massive body aches, low energy, weight gain – especially around the abdomen – and declining bone health. Sharing a workout video, she wrote: “I’m 48 and I’ve been struggling with perimenopause for the last three years. No one warns you about how tough this is. Thanks to a dear friend, I got back into my gym routine, and it’s helped me a lot with my body aches, energy, and to keep a positive mindset.”

Turning to Fitness as Medicine

Instead of letting the phase slow her down, Namita leaned into strength training and cardio to reclaim her health. She confessed, “I work out regularly, and this keeps me fit and energised. It especially helps with my mood swings and keeps me positive. So, no matter how lazy or tired I feel, I work out 6 days a week.”

Her regimen focused on weight training and core strengthening – practices that, according to experts, can counteract muscle loss and declining bone density during midlife.

A Call to Women: Invest in Muscle Health

Namita’s message extended beyond her own struggles. She urged women to be “selfish” when it came to their health, stressing that muscle mass depletes rapidly with age, leading to long-term health consequences if ignored.

“It’s time to start taking care of your muscle mass. It’s so important. So, my lovely ladies, hope this video motivates you to start today,” she wrote.

What is Perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, when the ovaries gradually produce fewer hormones. This change can last for years, beginning as early as the mid-30s or as late as the mid-50s. Common symptoms include irregular periods, mood swings, hot flashes, weight gain, and fatigue.

Namita Thapar’s candid revelation not only broke the silence around perimenopause but also offered a practical takeaway: movement, strength training, and self-prioritisation are not luxuries but necessities for women navigating this stage of life.
