Action has begun in the ongoing ‘religious conversion and sexual exploitation’ controversy at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow. Following mounting allegations and protests by Hindu organizations, Syed Akhtar Abbas, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Vice Chancellor, has been removed from his post. In a related development, an Additional Professor from the Department of Pediatrics has been suspended in connection with a sexual harassment case. The controversy had sparked significant unrest on campus and drew political attention in the state. Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak has ordered a high-level probe into the matter, forming a two-member committee to investigate the alleged syndicate and possible financial irregularities. Authorities are now examining whether a larger network was operating within the institution. Further action is expected based on the findings of the inquiry committee.
