Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has kickstarted Congress’ election preparations in Assam with a two-day visit, beginning with prayers at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. As Chairperson of the party’s Screening Committee, she will oversee crucial meetings, including discussions on candidate selection and organizational strategy ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled in April. Congress leaders accompanying her include senior figures tasked with strengthening internal coordination and finalizing electoral plans. A key highlight of the visit will be a press conference where Priyanka Gandhi is expected to release a “charge sheet” against the BJP-led Assam government, outlining alleged corruption, unfulfilled promises, and administrative failures. The visit also carried symbolic political messaging. At the temple, a priest publicly blessed her to become Prime Minister, drawing attention to the optics of the moment. Meanwhile, the BJP, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has expressed confidence in returning to power with a stronger mandate. Over the next two days, Congress is likely to deliberate on alliances, candidate faces, and strategies to counter the BJP’s campaign narrative.
