A passenger was jolted awake when a flight attendant leapt onto her exit row seat in a frantic rush to grab a fire extinguisher from the cabin.

An American Airlines flight, scheduled to land in Phoenix from Philadelphia in the United States, was diverted after smoke started coming out of a passenger’s device. The flight landed safely at Washington’s Dulles International Airport after the diversion.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 24, involving a flight carrying 160 passengers and six crew members.

According to passenger Adriana Novello, 22, she was jolted awake when a flight attendant leapt onto her exit row seat in a frantic rush to grab a fire extinguisher from the cabin.
“Then I started smelling smoke, and a lot of people on the plane were coughing. But I looked behind me, and what we could tell was that there was something on fire in the aisle,” she told ABC News.
Emergency crews met American Airlines Flight 357 when it landed at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA did not disclose the type of device involved in the fire.
“The device was quickly contained by crew members prior to landing,” ABC News quoted American Airlines as saying.
