Pilgrims heading to the Two Holy Mosques during Ramadan should prepare for warmer days and limited rainfall. Saudi Arabia’s National Centre for Meteorology has released its preliminary climate outlook for Ramadan 1447H, forecasting above-average temperatures and below-normal rainfall in Makkah and Madinah throughout the holy month. The forecast forms part of the centre’s seasonal monitoring efforts aimed at supporting preparedness and operational planning, particularly for authorities serving worshippers during Ramadan.

Temperatures expected to edge higher

According to the National Centre for Meteorology, temperatures in both cities are projected to exceed seasonal norms. In Makkah, maximum temperatures could rise by around 1°C above the historical average. In Madinah, the increase could reach up to 1.2°C above average.Historically, average temperatures during Ramadan stand at approximately 26.8°C in Makkah and 23.1°C in Madinah. With the projected rise, daytime conditions are expected to feel noticeably warmer, particularly during peak afternoon hours.

Rainfall likely to remain below average

Rainfall levels in both cities are forecast to fall below normal monthly averages. The typical rainfall during Ramadan is around 4.2 mm in Makkah and 4.3 mm in Madinah. The centre indicated that any precipitation recorded during the holy month is likely to fall within the light rainfall category. This suggests limited chances of significant rain events, with totals expected to remain modest throughout the period.

Supporting preparedness during Ramadan

The meteorology authority stated that the seasonal outlook is designed to support preparedness planning and operational readiness, especially for entities serving visitors to the Two Holy Mosques during Ramadan.By providing early climate projections, the centre aims to help relevant bodies anticipate weather conditions and adjust services accordingly. The National Centre for Meteorology has encouraged the public to follow its accredited and official channels for updated weather reports and periodic climate briefings as Ramadan approaches.
