When Randhir spoke about his drinking which led to trouble with Babita

When Randhir Kapoor said his drinking habit led to problems in his marriage, spoke about struggles to earn money for Karisma Kapoor, Kareena's tuition fees, home expenses

Randhir Kapoor celebrates his birthday today. The actor known for movies like ‘Haath Ki Safai’, ‘Jawani Diwani’, ‘Biwi O Biwi’, ‘Hamrani’ among others, he took a break from acting too soon in his career. There were many things which led to his downfall as an actor and one of the reasons was his drinking habit. Randhir himself had opened up on it, and admitted that it was also one of the reasons for the troubles in his marriage with Babita. In an old interview, the actor had reflected on the cracks in his marriage with Babita, admitting his own shortcomings at the time. Speaking about their relationship, he confessed in an interview with Hindustan Times, “She found that I was a terrible man who drank a lot and came home late, which was something she didn’t like. And I didn’t want to live the way she wanted, and she couldn’t accept me as I am, though it was a love marriage. So it’s okay.”

Kareena Kapoor Reveals Parents Randhir and Babita Have Reunited After Decades Apart

In another old interview, as reported by MensXP, Randhir also spoke about the financial pressures he faced during his peak years in the film industry. Comparing his era to today’s generation of actors, he pointed out how modern stars benefit from multiple revenue streams such as brand endorsements and public appearances, opportunities that were far more limited in his time. He revealed how challenging it was to manage household expenses solely through film earnings, and said, “Today’s stars have become very choosy. They just do one film a year. That is because they also earn from endorsements, events and other avenues. We worked really hard to earn money. The tuition fees of my children, my electricity bills, Babita ke kharche (Babita’s expenses), my Scotch, was all paid from the money that I earned from acting in films.”Randhir and Babita tied the knot on November 6, 1971, after a period of courtship. The couple later welcomed two daughters, Karisma Kapoor in 1974 and Kareena Kapoor in 1980. However, ongoing differences and Randhir’s drinking habits eventually led to their separation in 1988, when Babita moved out with their daughters. After living separately for more than three decades, the two reunited under the same roof in 2023, marking a quiet reconciliation in their long and complex relationship.
