Margot Robbie has redefined method acting in the wildest way possible for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of ‘Wuthering Heights’. The actress’s own skin, veins, and freckles were photographed and printed onto silk to create the wallpaper in her character Catherine ‘Cathy’ Earnshaw’s bedroom, turning a gothic classic into something viscerally personal.Director Emerald Fennell shared this bold production secret at a ‘Wuthering Heights’ screening at the BFI Southbank in London, as reported by Variety. Emerald Fennell said, “We asked her to send us all her veins and her freckles, and then we printed it on silk and stuffed it and put latex over it so that it could sweat.”Emerald Fennell explained the symbolism, stating, “At first glance, you don’t see any of it; it’s just a beautiful pink room. It’s like a visual example of what it feels like to be made a wife, to be made an object of beauty, to be a collector’s item.” This textured detail in Cathy’s private space reflects the story’s themes of possession and beauty, with Margot Robbie starring opposite Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.

Immersive trailer shrines

Emerald Fennell crafted custom setups to deepen her stars’ connection. She revealed, “I was like: ‘I’m going to go through the internet, I’m going to find their best photos, and then I’m going to make shrines in their bedrooms for each other’,” as reported by NewKerala. Emerald Fennell added, “So when Jacob went into his room, he had an insane shrine to worship not just Cathy, but Margot Robbie, and then she had the same thing. There’s nothing more humanising than somebody’s first press photo.” These quirky altars helped Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie tap into Heathcliff and Cathy’s obsessive love, blending fandom with character work.

Margot Robbie’s casting initiative

Through her LuckyChap Entertainment, Margot Robbie didn’t hesitate to step into the lead. Emerald Fennell recounted, “I sent it to them to produce, and Margot luckily asked if she might play Cathy,” according to Variety.Emerald Fennell shared her hesitation, saying, “I was very nervous to ask her, because I think we have a different relationship, and I didn’t want to put her on the spot. I was like: ‘Do I go for it?’ No, I didn’t. Of course I didn’t, because she’s braver than me. She asked me”. Margot Robbie’s proactive move promises a fierce take on Emily Bronte’s tormented romance.Social media lights up with reactions to the skin wallpaper, from artistic praise to playful shivers.
