Brooklyn subway horror: Man pushes woman onto tracks, punches another before arrest

A 25-year-old man allegedly went on a violent rampage inside a Brooklyn subway station on Saturday morning, pushing one woman onto the tracks and punching another in the face before being taken into custody, police said. The shocking incident unfolded around 8:45 a.m. at the 53rd Street station on the R line in Sunset Park. According to authorities, the suspect first approached a 51-year-old woman standing on the platform and punched her in the face without provocation.Moments later, he allegedly turned toward a 43-year-old woman and shoved her onto the tracks. The victim managed to scramble to safety before an oncoming train arrived, officials said.Officers from the NYPD’s 72nd Precinct and Transit District 34 rushed to the scene. Both women were taken to a nearby hospital and are expected to survive. The 51-year-old sustained facial injuries, while the other victim reported pain in her knee and back.Police sources said the suspect fled the station immediately after the attacks. Following a search of the surrounding area, officers tracked him down at a shelter on the 5100 block of 20th Avenue and took him into custody for questioning. Charges were pending as of Saturday evening, with the investigation ongoing. The incident comes amid concerns over safety in the city’s transit system. According to NYPD data, major crime in the subway system has risen 17 per cent so far this year compared to the same period last year. Assaults have increased from 65 to 71 cases, while robberies have surged 58 per cent from 38 to 60 incidents.Citywide crime, however, has declined 8 per cent over the same period, police data show. Authorities are continuing their probe into Saturday’s attack.
