PMO has a new address: PM Modi unveils ‘Seva Teerth’

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled the name ‘Seva Teerth’ for the new building complex housing the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat, marking a major overhaul of India’s administrative infrastructure. He will formally inaugurate Seva Teerth and Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2 and address a public programme at the complex at around 6 PM.The government said the inauguration marks a milestone in India’s governance architecture and reflects the Prime Minister’s push for a modern, efficient and citizen-centric administrative ecosystem.

  • South Block to Seva Teerth
  • Central Secretariat to be Kartavya Bhavan
  • Rajpath to be Kartavya Path
  • Race Course Road to be Lok Kalyan Marg
  • Raj Bhavans/Raj Niwas to be Lok Bhavan/Lok Niwas

Seva Teerth now brings under one roof the PMO, the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat, which were earlier functioning from separate locations. Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2 will house key ministries, including Finance, Defence, Health and Family Welfare, Corporate Affairs, Education, Culture, Law and Justice, Information and Broadcasting, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Chemicals and Fertilizers, and Tribal Affairs. For decades, several ministries operated from ageing and scattered offices across the Central Vista area, leading to coordination challenges, rising maintenance costs and inefficiencies. The new complexes consolidate these functions into integrated, future-ready facilities aimed at improving coordination and workflow. Both Seva Teerth and Kartavya Bhavan feature digitally integrated offices, centralised reception facilities and designated public interface zones to enhance administrative efficiency and citizen engagement.Built in line with 4-Star GRIHA standards, the complexes incorporate renewable energy systems, water conservation measures, waste management solutions and high-performance building designs. They also include smart access controls, surveillance networks and advanced emergency response systems to ensure security for officials and visitors. The naming of Seva Teerth is part of a broader effort by the government since 2014 to move away from colonial-era nomenclature. Among the changes are South Block renamed Seva Teerth, Central Secretariat as Kartavya Bhavan, Rajpath as Kartavya Path, Race Course Road as Lok Kalyan Marg, and Raj Bhavans or Raj Niwas as Lok Bhavan or Lok Niwas.
