A strong protest by the Opposition is underway outside the Uttar Pradesh Assembly ahead of the presentation of the state budget. The Samajwadi Party (SP) is staging demonstrations over issues related to the budget and trade policies, raising slogans within the Assembly premises. The protest comes just before Finance Minister Suresh Khanna is set to present the Yogi government 2.0 budget. With the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching, today’s budget is being closely watched for possible populist announcements aimed at boosting the state’s economy and strengthening the BJP’s prospects for returning to power. Political observers believe the budget could play a significant role in shaping the electoral narrative. During the protest, SP leaders, including MLA Atul Pradhan, criticized the central government’s trade decisions, alleging that they would harm farmers. Protesters carried posters and banners, demanding protection for farmers and opposing what they described as policies that could “destroy” the agricultural sector. The demonstration highlights the charged political atmosphere in the state as the budget session begins, with the Opposition seeking to corner the government on economic and farmer-related concerns.
