Political Row: Government and Opposition Clash Over Limits of Protest in Lok Sabha

A video shared by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju shows events from February 4, 2026, in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks for the President’s address. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to respond, but a group of opposition female MPs, including Varsha Gaikwad, created a loud protest, reaching the area near the Prime Minister’s chair before he arrived. The MPs carried banners but did not have any weapons, and their protest was meant to be symbolic and democratic. The incident has triggered a political dispute, with BJP female MPs, including Malvika Devi, writing to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanding action and praising the Speaker for maintaining restraint and protecting the decorum of the house. Varsha Gaikwad clarified that their protest was non-violent, and the banners were the only objects involved. Rijiju tweeted the video to highlight how the situation could have escalated, but restraint prevented chaos. The clash reflects continuing tensions between the government and opposition over parliamentary conduct, and the video has reignited debate about the limits of protest in the Lok Sabha.
