In Kota, Rajasthan, a three-story building housing a popular restaurant collapsed, sending shockwaves through the city known for its coaching institutes. The incident occurred in the Jawahar Thana area, on Opera Hospital Road, where the Muradabadi Non-Veg Restaurant was operational. At the time of collapse, multiple patrons and staff members were inside, resulting in two confirmed deaths — including a 20-year-old student from Bengal and a 14-year-old boy — and eight others critically injured. Rescue operations were swiftly launched by NDRF, SDRF, and local fire teams, with ten victims admitted to nearby hospitals. Initial reports suggest that ongoing construction activities on the upper floors, including the use of drilling machines and hammers, caused vibrations that may have destabilized the building structure. Authorities also indicated potential structural issues following the dismantling of an adjacent older building, though a final conclusion will follow a detailed investigation. The Rajasthan government has ordered a full inquiry, and officials have promised strict action against those found negligent. The tragedy has once again raised questions about construction safety standards, regulatory oversight, and accountability in fast-growing urban centers.
