Rajya Sabha Live: Leader of House Defends PM, Rejects Opposition Claims Over Lok Sabha Debate Row

The Rajya Sabha witnessed a tense session today as the Leader of the House responded to opposition allegations regarding disruptions in the Lok Sabha. Emphasizing parliamentary rules and traditions, he clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other government leaders were fully ready to engage in discussions in the Lok Sabha, but proceedings were interrupted, preventing the PM from speaking. The government leader stressed that repeated claims suggesting the government avoids debate are misleading. He highlighted that the Rajya Sabha functions under its own rules, independent of Lok Sabha proceedings, and that references to Lok Sabha adjournments or debates are not relevant in the Upper House. The Leader of the House called upon the opposition to respect the House’s decorum, allow the Prime Minister to speak, and avoid disrupting proceedings. He urged senior opposition leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, to guide their members rather than letting personal agendas interfere with parliamentary processes. The session also touched upon the ongoing discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, with the government underlining that all members must follow the rules and allow a democratic and orderly debate. The Leader of the House appealed for maturity, stressing that Parliament belongs to all members and that disruptions harm both Houses.
