Neena Gupta on Masaba’s bond with Vivian Richards

Neena Gupta opens up on Masaba’s bond with Vivian Richards: ‘He’s not a social person, he’s in his own world'

Veteran actor Neena Gupta has offered a rare glimpse into her personal life, opening up about the equation her daughter, designer Masaba Gupta, shares with her father and West Indies cricketing legend Vivian Richards. In a recent interview, Neena revealed that despite Richards not being a part of Masaba’s growing-up years, the father-daughter bond today is warm and easy.“It’s very nice and they share a very comfortable relationship. And why wouldn’t it be comfortable?” Neena told ANI, explaining their contrasting personalities. “He’s not a social person. He’s in his own world. On the other hand, Masaba is very social and normal. She is just like me. Whatever they have together, it works well for both of them.”

The wedding picture that brought everyone together

Neena also spoke about the much-discussed family photograph from Masaba Gupta’s wedding celebrations, which brought together her entire blended family — including Vivian Richards — in one frame.“Masaba and Satyadeep didn’t have a wedding with pheras. They did a court marriage and a reception,” Neena shared. “This was the time when Masaba wanted a picture, especially when all of us were present. Satyadeep’s family was there and Vivian was also there. It happened by chance.”The picture, shared by Masaba in January 2023, featured Masaba and her husband Satyadeep Misra, his mother Nalinimisra Tyabji, sister Chinmaya Misra, Neena Gupta, her husband Vivek Mehra, and Masaba’s father Vivian Richards. Captioning the photo, Masaba had written, “For the first time ever, my whole life came together. This is us. My beautiful blended family. Everything from here on is just a bonus.”

A trailblazing personal journey

Neena Gupta and Vivian Richards had Masaba out of wedlock and lived separately throughout their lives. Neena welcomed Masaba in the 1980s and made a bold, trailblazing decision to raise her daughter as a single mother at a time when it was far from socially accepted. In 2008, Neena married chartered accountant Vivek Mehra, marking a new chapter in her personal life. On the work front, Neena Gupta will next be seen in Vadh 2, co-starring Sanjay Mishra. The film is slated for a theatrical release on February 6, 2026. Go to Source
