Tata Nexon tops SUV sales in January, Punch and Creta follow: Industry data

Tata Motors PV’s Nexon has emerged as the highest-selling SUV in the domestic market in January 2026, clocking sales of 23,365 units, reinforcing its leadership in India’s fast-growing compact SUV segment.

According to industry data, Tata Motors PV further consolidated its position with the Punch, securing the second spot at 19,257 units, highlighting sustained consumer preference for entry-level and compact SUVs.

Hyundai’s Creta ranked third with domestic sales of 17,921 units, continuing its strong performance in the mid-size SUV category.

Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza followed closely with 17,486 units, while Mahindra’s Scorpio recorded 15,542 units to feature among the top five SUVs in the country.

Maruti Suzuki Victoris also delivered robust volumes at 15,240 units, underlining the company’s strong traction in the utility vehicle segment.

Among other key performers, Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx registered 13,353 units, Hyundai Venue sold 12,413 units, and Mahindra Bolero posted 11,841 units in January. Kia Sonet completed the top 10 list with domestic sales of 10,998 units.

The January numbers reflect the continued shift in consumer demand towards SUVs across price bands, with compact and mid-size models driving the bulk of volumes.
