Tata Nexon clinches top spot as India’s best-seller in January 2026

New Delhi: Tata Motors’ Nexon has emerged as India’s best-selling passenger vehicle model in January 2026.

According to industry data, the Nexon recorded sales of 23,365 units during the month, leading the top 10 models list. Maruti Suzuki’s Swift Dzire followed with 19,629 units, while Tata Punch secured the third position with 19,257 units.

Nexon’s popularity highlights continued dominance of compact SUVs and strong demand across mass-market segments.

Hyundai Creta ranked fourth with sales of 17,921 units, closely followed by Maruti Suzuki Ertiga at 17,892 units and Swift at 17,806 units. Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza reported sales of 17,486 units, while Baleno recorded 16,782 units.

According to the data, Mahindra & Mahindra entered the race with Scorpio accounting for sales of 15,542 units, highlighting sustained demand in the utility vehicle segment. Maruti Suzuki Victoris rounded off the list with 15,240 units.

The January ranking reflects a clear shift in consumer preference towards SUVs and compact utility vehicles, with models such as Nexon, Punch, Creta, Brezza and Scorpio featuring prominently in the list.

The robust performance of top-selling models comes amid record overall auto sales in January 2026, supported by stable demand, improved consumer sentiment and continued momentum in the passenger vehicle segment.

The auto industry posted an all-time high domestic sales in January, with more than 27,20,881 units sold across segments (passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and more), per Vahan data (excluding Telangana).
