A major law-and-order situation unfolded in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district after a violent clash erupted between two groups, triggered by the alleged high-handedness of a local criminal. The incident began when a history-sheeter named Arif allegedly assaulted villagers in the area and also attacked people in nearby villages. Enraged by repeated acts of violence, local residents gathered in protest, which soon escalated into large-scale unrest. Angry villagers allegedly surrounded and set fire to the houses of Arif and his associates. As tensions spiraled out of control, police teams rushed to the spot to restore order. However, the situation worsened when the mob allegedly pelted stones at the police personnel, forcing authorities to take strict action to control the violence. Police later registered multiple FIRs at Rajim police station in connection with the assaults, arson, and attack on law enforcement. The main accused Arif was arrested, along with two of his associates, who were also taken into custody from the spot. Officials confirmed that Arif is a repeat offender and had been involved in previous criminal activities in the region. Heavy police deployment has been made in the area to prevent further violence, and authorities say the situation is now under control. An investigation is underway to identify others involved in the arson and stone-pelting incident
