Breaking News: India Launches Women-Led Enterprises & Disability Support Programs to Boost Employment

The Indian government is rolling out comprehensive initiatives to empower women entrepreneurs and persons with disabilities (PwDs) through employment, skill development, and technology-driven support. The “Lakhipati Didi” scheme, already a major success, will now expand to encourage women-led self-help enterprises and credit-linked entrepreneurial ventures. Clusters of women-led enterprises will receive improved access to capital, resources, and mentorship to strengthen local economies and promote inclusive growth. For persons with disabilities, the “Divyang Sahara” initiative will provide AI-enabled prosthetics, skill training, and specialized employment opportunities across hospitality, food and beverage, and other service sectors. Institutions for R&D, retail access for adaptive products, and rehabilitation centers will be enhanced to make support tools more accessible. Regional mental health facilities will also be strengthened, with new institutes planned in North India, alongside upgrades to existing centers in Ranchi and Tezpur, addressing the mental health needs of vulnerable populations. The government is further committed to improving healthcare infrastructure by expanding emergency and trauma care in district hospitals, particularly focusing on underserved communities. Food security, nutrition, and public wellness initiatives will remain a key priority, ensuring vulnerable families receive direct support. These measures collectively aim to create an inclusive growth ecosystem, enhancing employment opportunities for women and PwDs, while fostering innovation, technology adoption, and social equity across India.
