New Delhi: A quarrel over payment of instalments on a house in Dwarka may have been behind the brutal killing of 24-year-old SWAT commando Kajal Chaudhary.Kajal, who was four months pregnant, was assaulted allegedly by her husband Ankur, a clerk with the ministry of defence, at their home in southwest Delhi’s Mohan Garden on Jan 22. She died in hospital five days later.Police said that Kajal, posted with Delhi Police special cell, and Ankur would fight over instalments for a house they bought in Dwarka Mor. They had taken a loan of Rs 27 lakh but paying it off became a point of friction. Sources also said Kajal wanted to live separately from Ankur’s family because of harassment over dowry. On the night of the incident, the argument escalated into violence, during which Ankur allegedly struck Kajal on the head with a gym dumbbell, police said.Brother was on call during attack Kajal’s brother was on the phone with her when Ankur hit her. Police are looking into the loan documents. The relationship, the family said, began on a note of trust, as Kajal was friends with Ankur’s sister before the two got married. Kajal’s family alleged that soon after the wedding, she was subjected to repeated harassment over dowry by Ankur and his relatives. They claimed Kajal continued to endure the abuse in the hope of saving the relationship. Sources said that during questioning, Ankur claimed Kajal did not want to live with his family and insisted on purchasing the Dwarka flat. He also told investigators that both were under financial strain, with Kajal helping her family and paying instalments on existing loans.
