Driving without a valid licence in Qatar is a criminal offence, and the Ministry of Interior has reminded motorists that getting behind the wheel comes with strict legal responsibility and serious consequences under the law.In a message shared on its official social media platforms, the ministry cautioned that operating a vehicle without a valid licence is a major traffic violation and a direct threat to road safety. Authorities stressed that such offences cannot be settled or resolved through reconciliation, underlining that unlicensed driving is treated as a criminal matter rather than a minor breach of traffic rules. The ministry cited Article 94 of Qatar’s Traffic Law to spell out the penalties involved. Under the law, anyone found driving without a valid licence may be sentenced to imprisonment for a period ranging from one month to three years. The provision also allows for significant financial penalties, reflecting the gravity of the offence. Also, violators can be fined an amount starting from QR10,000 and going up to QR50,000. The court may impose a prison sentence, a fine, or one of the two penalties, depending on the circumstances of the case. The MOI said these measures are intended to reinforce road safety and ensure that only licensed drivers are allowed to operate vehicles.
