The revered Bapu always laid great emphasis on Swadeshi, which forms the bedrock of our resolve for a developed and self-reliant India. His life and deeds shall forever inspire his fellow countrymen to tread the path of duty,” he said. India observes Martyrs’ Day every year on January 30 to mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and to honour his contribution to the country’s freedom struggle. An official function to commemorate the day has been scheduled at Mahatma Gandhi Smriti Sthal at Rajghat on January 30. Several dignitaries are expected to attend the programme. In view of the event, the Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory and announced heightened security arrangements in parts of central Delhi. Traffic restrictions, regulation and diversions may be enforced between 9 am and 12 noon on several arterial roads and surrounding stretches to ensure the smooth conduct of the function and public safety.Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse at Gandhi Smriti in Birla House, months after India attained independence.
