Arijit cites multiple reasons for quitting playback singing

Arijit Singh says he’s not done with music, cites multiple reasons for quitting playback singing; ‘Going back to Indian classical music’

Popular Bollywood singer Arijit Singh, who wooed generations with his soulful voice in songs like Tum Hi Ho, Kesariya and Channa Mereya, left fans stunned after announcing that he will no longer take up new assignments as a playback vocalist. While calling time on one chapter of his career, Arijit made it clear that he is not stepping away from music itself.

‘I am calling it off’: Arijit’s retirement announcement

Sharing a heartfelt note on Instagram, Arijit thanked his listeners for standing by him through the years. In his message, he wrote, “Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”The announcement sent shockwaves across the country, leaving fans emotional and surprised by the sudden decision.

‘I got bored’: Why Arijit chose to step back

Soon after, Arijit clarified his decision through a series of posts on his private X account. He stressed that there wasn’t a single reason behind the move. “There is not one reason behind this, there are several reasons plus I have been trying to do this since a long time. Finally I have gathered the right courage,” he wrote.Explaining further, he added, “One of the reasons were simple, I get bored pretty quick, that’s why I keep changing arrangements of the same songs and perform them on stage. So here is the thing, I got bored. I need to do some other music to live.” He also said he is excited to hear new voices emerge, adding, “Another reason is I am excited to hear some singer come up and give me real motivation.”

Back to roots: ‘I want to start again’

Reassuring fans that music will always remain his calling, Arijit revealed his next creative direction. “I am going to go back to Indian classical music. I wanna go back to making music. I wanna start again,” he shared, signalling a return to his musical roots. He also expressed gratitude for the journey so far, saying, “God has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and in future will be learning more and do more on my own as a small little artist.”

‘I won’t stop making music’

Arijit further confirmed that he will honour his pending commitments. “I still have to finish some pending commitments, will finish them. So you might get some releases this year. Just to be clear that I won’t stop making music,” he said, putting an end to fears of a complete exit.

A voice that defined a generation

Arijit Singh began his musical journey as a contestant on Fame Gurukul in 2005 and made his Hindi film debut with Phir Mohabbat from Murder 2 (2011). However, it was Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2 (2013) that catapulted him to superstardom and earned him his first Filmfare Award.Over the years, he delivered unforgettable songs like Tum Hi Ho, Channa Mereya, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Raabta, Kesariya, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Tera Yaar Hoon Main and Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage, effortlessly moving between romance, devotion and energy-packed tracks. His recent song Ghar Kab Aaoge from Border 2 once again touched millions. While playback singing may no longer define his future, Arijit Singh’s music journey is clearly far from over. Go to Source
