Mukesh reacts to ARR’s remarks, ‘You shouldn’t complain anymore’

Mukesh Rishi reacts to AR Rahman’s communal remarks, 'When God has given you so much, you shouldn’t complain anymore'

Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman recently stirred controversy with his comments about his experience working in the Hindi film industry. Speaking about receiving fewer work offers in Bollywood, Rahman said that over the past eight years, a shift in power dynamics and “communal” factors — referring to religion, regional identity and industry politics — may have influenced the kind of opportunities he received. While several voices came out in support of the music maestro, others criticised his remarks, interpreting them as an indication of bias or discrimination within the industry. The issue soon sparked a wider debate across political and entertainment circles.

Mukesh Rishi says industry keeps evolving

Now, veteran actor Mukesh Rishi has weighed in on the matter. Speaking to IANS, the popular 90s actor offered a perspective on changing times in the industry.“Rahman sahab cannot think that all of us have been thrown out. He should realise how many talented people have entered the industry in the last eight years. Someone may not appear talented to you, but they may be dear to God, and He wants to help them. The rules are the same for everyone,” Rishi said.

‘Changes apply to everyone’

Sharing his own experience, Rishi spoke about adapting to the changing nature of work in cinema.“I cannot say why I am not getting work or why films have reduced for me. I am placing myself there. If someone sees me, they will say that I am trying to maintain myself. These changes are for everyone—whether it’s an actor, a music director, or anyone else. Those who were heroes earlier are now playing villains, roles that we used to do earlier,” he added.

‘God has given you so much’

The actor also reminded audiences of Rahman’s long and celebrated career in the industry.“Rahman has worked in the industry for 20–25 years and that everyone hummed his songs. Even recently, one of his songs became a hit,” he noted, adding, “When God has given you so much, you shouldn’t complain anymore. You have received a lot so far. Saying that you are not getting work because of this is not right.”

Rahman issues clarification video

Following the backlash, AR Rahman released a video clarification, stating that his comments had been misunderstood. He stressed that he “never meant to hurt anyone” and described India as his biggest inspiration.Reaffirming his belief in unity, Rahman said his music has always celebrated cultural harmony, adding that he never wished to “cause pain, and I hope my sincerity is felt.” Go to Source
