Riyadh Metro witnessed a rare moment, not marked by a train’s arrival, but by the birth of a new baby on the platformThe incident took place at Al Andalus Station, where a baby was born, marking the first childbirth recorded on the Riyadh Metro network. What began as a routine day of travel quickly turned into an emergency that required swift action from staff on duty.According to Riyadh Public Transport, the operating team handled the situation with professionalism, composure and a strong sense of humanity. Female staff members supported the mother during the delivery and stayed with her until ambulance crews arrived, ensuring both mother and child were cared for in a calm and controlled environment.Officials said the incident underscored the team’s readiness and commitment to passenger safety, pointing to the coordinated and steady response during an unexpected and highly sensitive situation. The smooth handling of the birth was described as a reflection of the training and preparedness of frontline staff across the metro network.To commemorate the rare moment, Riyadh Metro presented the parents with a special gift that included two first-class Darb cards, each valid for one full year. A message of appreciation was also issued to recognise all staff members involved in the incident, acknowledging their role in turning a challenging situation into a safe and memorable outcome.The birth has since been viewed as a symbolic moment for Riyadh’s growing public transport system, highlighting that beyond moving passengers across the city, it also serves as a space where extraordinary human moments can unfold.
