JAMMU: In a major relief for 50 MBBS students affected by the derecognition of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) in Katra, J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPE) has decided to adjust them in seven govt-run colleges across the UT and has asked them to appear for counselling on Saturday.The board asked the candidates unable to attend the session in person to authorize a blood relative, in the format prescribed by BOPE, to participate on their behalf.“The 50 supernumerary seats shall be distributed strictly based on NEET-UG merit of the candidates concerned and their preferences among the seven newly established Government Medical Colleges (GMC) of the UT,” the notification on BOPE website stated.It mentioned that eight students would be allotted seats in GMC Anantnag, whereas seven each would be accommodated in GMCs in Baramulla, Doda, Handwara, Kathua, Rajouri and Udhampur.Earlier this month, National Medical Commission withdrew the letter of permission granted to SMVDIME for running MBBS course over non-compliance with minimum standards.
