'Strong momentum in partnership': PM Modi speaks to Brazilian President Lula; invites him to India

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Brazil’s president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva over phone.The prime minister said close cooperation was essential to advance the shared interests of the Global South and added that he looked forward to welcoming the Brazilian president to India in the near future.In a post on X, the prime minister said, “Glad to speak with President Lula. We reviewed the strong momentum in the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership, which is poised to scale new heights in the year ahead. Our close cooperation is vital for advancing the shared interests of the Global South. I look forward to welcoming him to India soon.” PM Modi visited Brazil in July last year where India and Brazil signed six agreement, including one on combating international terrorism and transnational crime. The two countries also signed agreements for cooperation in renewable energy, digital solutions, intellectual property and exchange of classified information. India and Brazil set a target of $20 billion in bilateral trade and focused on defence cooperation too.
