Florida truck accident: ICE arrests driver Harjinder Singh's brother Harneet Singh; he was also in US illegally

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Harneet Singh, the 25-year-old brother of Harjinder Singh, the truck driver who caused the death of three people by taking a wrong U-turn. Harneet was sitting inside the truck when the accident took place. According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, on August 12, Harjinder Singh attempted to make an illegal U-turn through an “Official Use Only” access point in St. Lucie County. By blocking all lanes of the highway with his truck, Singh caused a brutal wreck, instantly killing three innocent people and leaving Florida families shattered. ICE arrested Harneet on August 18, and he will remain in custody pending removal proceedings. The administration said like his brother, he was also in the country illegally. The Department of Homeland Security said Border Patrol encountered Harneet Singh in 2023 but he was released into American communities by the Biden administration.

Harjinder Singh failed the license test, fled to California, even after the accident

After the fatal crash, Harjinder Singh fled to California and was then brought back to Florida. “He thought he could run. @GovRonDeSantis and I brought him back to face justice,” Lt Governor Jay Collins said in a post on social media as Harjinder Singh was brough back to Florida. Old records revealed that Harjinder Singh failed the English language proficiency assessment and could only give correct responses to just 2 of 12 verbal questions. he identified only one of four highway traffic signs but still managed to get license from California. In the aftermath of the crash, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that all visas for commercial truck drivers are being halted immediately. “The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailer trucks on US roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers,” Rubio said.
