“Take it serious”: Kai Cenat explains why he stepped away from Twitch after record-breaking run

Kai Cenat has explained that his Twitch hiatus was a deliberate choice after breaking the platform’s subscriber record. Speaking to TMZ, he said the break allowed him to focus seriously on fashion and launch his clothing brand, Vivet. He also used the time to reset mentally after months of self-doubt and pressure.

Kai Cenat reached a rare peak in late 2025, one that most creators only dream about. Breaking past one million Twitch subscribers, he was once again sitting alone at the top of the platform. The final moments of his Mafiathon 3 felt like a celebration of streaming culture itself, complete with appearances from LeBron James and Twitch CEO Dan Clancy. Then, almost overnight, he vanished. The sudden silence sparked confusion. Fans refreshed Twitch daily, waiting for a familiar notification that never came. As weeks passed, speculation grew. Some wondered if burnout had finally caught up to him. Others believed he was planning something bigger. As it turns out, Cenat was not stepping away from ambition. He was redirecting it.

Kai Cenat reveals what really led to his sudden Twitch absence

Speaking to TMZ on January 15, Cenat finally explained why he pressed pause on streaming. His answer was direct and grounded in purpose. “I have to take it serious, it’s clothes, you gotta take indulge in it as much as possible. That’s why I had to take a step break from streaming, to do what I gotta do,” he said.During his time away from Twitch, Cenat quietly worked on his fashion goals, launching his own clothing brand called Vivet. He also stayed active behind the scenes, uploading content to a lesser-known YouTube channel while learning the business side of design and branding. For him, fashion was not a side project. It was a commitment that required full attention. This break also came during a period of personal reflection. In December, Cenat openly shared his struggles with self-doubt and pressure, offering a rare look into the mental weight that comes with constant visibility.“Honestly, for the past few months, I’ve been struggling with mental health out of self-doubt and fright of pursuing goals that I really want to achieve,” he wrote on X.Cenat has not confirmed when he will return to Twitch. What he has made clear is that the pause was intentional. With Streamer University expected to return in 2026, his absence looks less like a retreat and more like a reset, one built around growth beyond the screen. Also Read: “I quit”: Kai Cenat breaks silence with hidden YouTube channel and bold move into fashion
