Politics: Congress Opens Account in BMC as Dharavi Declared First Result, BJP Alliance Extends Lead in Trends

The first confirmed result of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections has been declared, with Congress registering an early victory from the Dharavi ward. While initial figures were limited to trends, this marks the first trend converting into an official result, giving Congress an opening lead on the results board. Counting began in batches of 46 wards, and election authorities have clarified that results for each set will be declared sequentially. According to the Election Commission, outcomes for the first 46 wards are expected to be fully declared by around noon, while final results for all 227 wards are likely by late evening, between 5 and 6 pm. The extended timeline indicates a longer counting process compared to Assembly elections. Meanwhile, counting for the second batch of 46 wards has also begun, taking the total number of wards under counting to 92. With this expansion, trends have shifted significantly. As per the latest figures, the BJP-led alliance is leading in 47 wards, the Shiv Sena alliance in 26, the Congress alliance in five, and others in seven wards. Although only one confirmed result has been declared so far, the BJP alliance has established a strong lead across both counting phases. The gap between the BJP alliance and its rivals appears substantial as trends from two sets of wards are combined. As counting progresses, these trends are expected to evolve further, shaping the final power equation in Mumbai’s civic body.
