'Tell Trump Epstein files are in Greenland, he will lose interest': Republican mocks US prez amid meeting with Denmark

Republican Representative Thomas Massie mocked President Donald Trump after posting on X that if Denmark told the GOP administration the Jeffrey Epstein files were in Greenland, “they’ll lose all interest and will never be able to find it.” The comment came as US and Danish officials met in Washington to discuss Trump’s push for influence over the Arctic territory. The US has shown increased interest in Greenland, with Trump saying the island is “vital for national security” and claiming the United States “needs Greenland” to counter influence from Russia and China. Denmark and Greenland have consistently rejected any suggestion of a sale or change in sovereignty, saying that Greenland “chooses Denmark.” On Wednesday, US secretary of state Marco Rubio and vice‑president JD Vance met Danish and Greenlandic officials. According to Danish foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the discussions were “frank but constructive,” and both sides agreed to form a high‑level working group to explore security concerns while respecting Danish sovereignty.Massie and Democratic Representative Ro Khanna have jointly called for the public release of all Jeffrey Epstein documents held by federal courts, including deposition transcripts, flight logs and material from civil lawsuits and criminal investigations. The lawmakers argue that making the materials public could shed light on alleged crimes and potential misconduct by high‑profile individuals, especially in the MAGA base. Courts have resisted full disclosure, citing privacy concerns of victims and ongoing legal matters, and lawmakers have urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to review the documents for possible declassification.Trump’s name has appeared in some publicly released Epstein files, including flight logs from the 1990s and restored photos in a Justice Department database. Being referenced in the records does not indicate wrongdoing, and the DOJ has said sensational claims against Trump in the files are “unfounded and false.” Trump has said he cut ties with Epstein years before the financier’s 2019 arrest. The files continue to be released with heavy redactions under federal transparency laws.
