BDO office vandalised in Murshidabad: BJP blames TMC’s Manirul, Mamata for ‘instigation’; FIR registered, 2 held

BDO office vandalised in Murshidabad: BJP blames TMC's Manirul, Mamata for 'instigation'; FIR registered, 2 held

A case has been registered after the Block Development Office (BDO) in Farakka, Murshidabad, was allegedly ransacked by a group of unidentified men on Monday afternoon, leaving a poll official injured. BJP MLA Gouri Sankar accused the ruling TMC Farakka MLA Manirul Islam of leading the vandalism caused at the government property. In a sharp attack, Sankar also attacked Mamata Banerjee for instigating her party cadres across the state to commit riots and violence. Speaking to news agency ANI, Sankar said, “Today, Farakka MLA Manirul Islam vandalised the block office. How can a public representative vandalise property? Who gave him the right to do so? Are they not Indian citizens, or are they Bangladeshis who think they can vandalise a block office in India?”He said that the people are watching and shall give them the befitting reply in the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections. “The public is ready to give them a befitting reply. In the 2026 elections, whether it’s Manirul or someone else, they will get their answer from the public,” he said.Accusing the Bengal CM, BJP said, “Mamata Banerjee is instigating her party cadres across the state to riot, commit violence, and destroy property. All these actions are carried out under Mamata Banerjee’s instructions. And wherever there was corruption, misconduct, or destruction in Bengal, all of it happened under Mamata’s orders. And even today’s actions were carried out on Mamata’s instructions.”According to the written complaint filed by Block Development Officer (BDO) Junaid Ahamed, the incident occurred around 1:30 PM while a Summary Revision (SIR) hearing was underway at the office. The BDO stated that a group of unknown individuals suddenly stormed into multiple official rooms and allegedly vandalised government property in front of BLOs, the Joint BDO, the OC Election and other Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs). During the chaos, one AERO reportedly sustained injuries while trying to shield himself. The case has been registered at the Farakka police station against the miscreants under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the PDPP Act. Following this, two arrests have been made in connection with the investigation.
