NEW DELHI: As Maharashtra voters prepare to cast their ballots for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election, knowing the exact polling booth location is a crucial first step before heading out to vote. While polling booth details are mentioned on voter slips distributed ahead of elections, voters can also easily check the same information online using their EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) number.According to official guidelines, voters can search their polling booth location through the Maharashtra State Election Commission’s voter services portal. The process is simple and can be completed in a few minutes.

Steps to check polling booth location online

  • Visit the Maharashtra State Election Commission website and click on the “voter search” option.
  • You will be redirected to the SEC’s dedicated voter list website at mahasecvoterlist.in/.
  • Click on “search name in voter list”.
  • Select either “EPIC Number Wise” or “Name Wise” search, depending on the details available.
  • Choose your local body category, such as Municipal Corporation, Municipality, Nagar Panchayat or Zilla Panchayat, followed by the district and the local body name.
  • Enter the EPIC number, or the full name if using the name-based search, and click on “search”.
  • Your voter details will appear on the screen, including polling booth name, complete address and voter slip information.
  • Voters can also access the same details through the Election Commission’s Voter Helpline App, which provides polling booth location and voter slip information. The app can be downloaded from eci.gov.in/voter-helpline-app/.

Once voters confirm their name on the electoral roll and polling booth location, they are advised to carry a valid photo identity document such as Aadhaar, PAN card or passport to the polling station. While the voter slip is not mandatory, it helps polling staff locate names faster and reduces waiting time.

Why this matters now

This assumes significance as Maharashtra goes to polls for 29 municipal corporations, with voting scheduled from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm on January 15. Election authorities have urged voters to verify their details in advance to ensure a smooth voting experience.Polling is being held after a gap of more than six years, with over 3.48 crore eligible voters set to decide the fate of nearly 16,000 candidates across 893 wards. The Maharashtra State Election Commission has declared a public holiday in civic body areas to encourage higher turnout, while extensive security arrangements, including the deployment of thousands of police personnel, have been put in place to ensure peaceful polling and counting.
