NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday slammed the Assam Congress unit over its now-deleted Bihu post showing an AI-generated image of the state BJP headquarters on fire. The BJP Assam unit shared the screenshot and warned that deleting the post would not “nullify” what the grand old party was “trying to imply”. “Deleting the post doesn’t nullify what you are trying to imply @INCAssam. You’re EXPOSED,” it said.As per the screenshot shared by the BJP, Congress’s post showed the Assam BJP HQ on fire and said: “As we light the Meji fire, let it consume the evils that plague our land-those divisive forces masquerading as guardians, sowing discord in the name of unity.””Wishing everyone a joyous Bhogali Bihu! As we light the Meji fire, let it consume the evils that plague our land-those divisive forces masquerading as guardians, sowing discord in the name of unity. May the flames bring renewal, harmony, and a brighter Assam, Bor Axom in 2026,” Assam Congress’s post said. The post has now been deleted. Calling it “cultural vandalism” at its “ugliest”, BJP strongly criticised Assam Congress and said that the post “grotesquely” distorted “Assamese culture with such shameless audacity.” “How dare you defile and grotesquely distort Assamese culture with such shameless audacity. The Bhela Ghar of Bhogali Bihu is a sacred, symbolic structure rooted in centuries-old tradition, it is not a real home. By deliberately twisting this ritual, you are not making a ‘mistake,’ you are committing a vile act of cultural sabotage. This is an insult to every Assamese person and a spit on our heritage,” the post said.”What you are doing is dangerous, malicious, and deeply irresponsible. You are manufacturing a false narrative that appears to glorify the burning of real homes where people live. That is not expression, that is provocation. That is not creativity, that is reckless incitement. You are poisoning minds, trivialising a sacred tradition, and deliberately courting chaos for attention and influence,” it added. “This is cultural vandalism in its ugliest form. It is the deliberate mutilation of a living tradition to mislead people and inflame emotions. Your actions expose a complete lack of respect, ethics, and accountability. Assamese culture is not your propaganda tool, not your shock prop, and not your playground. This disgraceful attempt to twist our traditions will be fiercely opposed and will not be tolerated,” it said.
