Breaking: Hindu Youth Killed in Bangladesh as Minority Violence Intensifies Ahead of Elections

A fresh incident of violence against the Hindu community has been reported from Bangladesh, raising serious concerns over the safety of minorities ahead of the country’s upcoming general elections. In the Feni district’s Dagan Bhuiyan area, unidentified assailants allegedly killed a 28-year-old Hindu man, Samir Kumar Das, on Sunday night and looted his auto-rickshaw. According to local reports, Samir did not return home late Sunday, prompting his family to begin a search and file a missing complaint with the police. His body was later recovered around 2 a.m from agricultural fields in the village. The incident adds to a growing list of attacks on minority communities as political tensions rise in the Muslim-majority nation of over 170 million people. Human rights organisations, including the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, have expressed grave concern over the increasing number of assaults on minority groups since 2024. The situation has further escalated with reports of custodial negligence, including the death of Pralay Chaki, who was arrested during a student movement in December 2025 and later died during treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. His family has alleged medical negligence and denial of timely care. Political analysts note that minority communities, particularly Hindus, are facing heightened insecurity following major political shifts, including the sidelining of the Awami League. The developments have triggered concern not only in India but also across the international community over Bangladesh’s human rights record.
