Teyana Taylor delivers emotional speech after Golden Globe win

Teyana Taylor wins big at Golden Globes: ‘We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter’

Teyana Taylor emotionally accepted her first Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in ‘One Battle After Another.’ She dedicated the win to “brown sisters and little brown girls,” emphasizing their strength and right to shine. Taylor also humorously urged her children to pay attention, thanking director Paul Thomas Anderson for his belief in her portrayal of the complex character Perfidia.

Earlier today, Teyana Taylor scored the first award of the night as she won the award for best supporting actress in a motion picture for her stint in ‘One Battle After Another.’ During her speech, she dedicated the award to her ‘brown brothers and sisters’, and sobbed as she accepted the honour.

The star was called to the stage as her name was announced for the award for best supporting actress in a motion picture for ‘One Battle After Another.’ The actress was visibly surprised and started crying as she walked up the stairs to receive her award. She gave a powerful speech as she accepted what is considered one of the highest honour awards in the film industry. She stated in her speech that “To my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space.”She further continued, joking about how her children are in the seating area upstairs and that they should be watching her and be “better be off them damn phones,” making everyone laugh at her comment. She lastly thanked Paul Thomas Anderson, the director behind the film for believing in her and for bringing her character to life. She thanked him further for his “vision, your trust, and your brilliance.”Teyana Taylor was up against Emily Blunt for ‘The Smashing Machine’, Ariana Grande for ‘Wicked: For Good’, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for ‘Sentimental Value’, and Amy Madigan for ‘Weapons.’

About ‘One Battle After Another’

Taylor plays the role of a revolutionary named Perfidia who is captured by the authorities. She sells out her teammates for a cut-off deal, though she later runs away. Her family, her husband and daughter are left behind, who then go into hiding until the past comes knocking at their door 16 years later.
