‘Stable job, high income’: Man shares tips after his B1/B2 visa got approved in 2 minutes in Chennai consulate

'Stable job, high income': Man shares tips after his B1/B2 visa got approved in 2 minutes in Chennai consulate

Amid reports that consular offices in India have started rejecting B1/B2 visas, a man shared some tips after his tourist visa was granted in two minutes in the Chennai consular office. The man explained in a Reddit post that, without explicitly saying it, he impressed the visa officer how deep his ties with India are and how he would have to absolutely return to India after his trip. The B1/B2 visas have started getting a lot of scrutiny as a visitor’s visa has become a common path for people to end up in the US and then overstay and seek asylum. The man said he was asked his purpose of visit. He provided a detailed itinerary that he is planning to visit the US for tourism purposes. He said his plan includes visiting New York, Washington DC, Nasa Space Center in Houston and also watching a FIFA World Cup match. The Redditor suggested that there is no reason to give a short answer to this question so that the visa officer understands that there is a detailed plan and nothing is being hidden. The man was asked why he would be alone on this trip and not accompanied by his wife. He answered that she has work commitments in India. He was asked whether he traveled internationally before and he gave the list of countries that included Portugal, Dubai, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia etc. He was asked about his company and salary. He said he was only asked for his passport and no other document, no proof of funds and no itinerary. The man said he didn’t show hotel bookings or any tickets and he did not even have FIFA booking but his intent was clear. He added that his high salary which he mentioned as 50LPA, a stable job, and marital status all contributed to proving that he would have to return to India.
