Cracker Barrel logo row: CEO Julie Felss Masino says everybody likes new logo; political fight begins

Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Felss Masino said the new logo (right) received positive feedback.

While Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Felss Masino dismissed the public anger over the change of the logo of Cracker Barrel, the row turned into a political one with the MAGA denouncing the logo change, calling it ‘woke’ and ‘liberal’ and Democrats questioning the outrage over a logo change. CEO Julie Felss Masino said they received overwhelmingly positive feedback on the logo change. “Cracker Barrel needs to feel like the Cracker Barrel for today and for tomorrow — the things that you love are still there. We need people to choose us, and we want people to choose us,” Masino said.

Old logo vs new logo

Cracker Barrel’s famous logo, which shows a man resting on his barrel, was conceptualized in 1977. Before that, it was a tex-only logo. The new logo removes the man and his barrel and goes back to a text-only logo with the ‘B’ looking like a barrel. But people are uninterested and they was the Cracker Barrel man back.

Who is the man on the earlier logo of Cracker Barrel?

The man was not a random man and had a background involving the designer and the founder. The character was born from a creative idea by graphic designer Bill Holley, working for Nashville’s Buntin Group. He sketched out the figure based on Cracker Barrel founder Dan W. Evins’ nostalgic memory of an older gentleman sitting on a front porch in overalls. Holley later used a man from a manufacturing company, as he matched the description, as a live model for the illustration. The character came to be nicknamed “Old Timer”Old Timer could be Evins’ real uncle ‘Uncle Herschel’ but he was not a model for the figure.

What is the political row over the logo?

MAGA activists had an instant meltdown after they saw the new logo. They lamented that a white man has been removed from the logo and blamed the CEO for her woke, liberal ideals for it. California Governor Gavin Newsom who is mockingly emulating Donald Trump on his social media put out an all-caps post on Cracker Barrel. “WHAT IS WRONG WITH CRACKER BARREL?? KEEP YOUR BEAUTIFUL LOGO!!! THE NEW ONE LOOKS LIKE CHEAP VELVEETA “CHEESE” FROM WALMART, THE PLACE FOR “GROCERIES” (AN OLD FASHIONED TERM)!!! “FIX IT” ASAP! WOKE IS DEAD!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. — GCN,” Newsom’s office posted. GCN stands for Gavin Christopher Newsom, the Governor’s full name, like Trump signs most of his posts off as DJT (Donald John Trump). “People can’t afford housing, groceries, and are going bankrupt if they get cancer. So naturally, conservatives are mad about Cracker Barrel’s logo,” Dem leader Nina Turner wrote. Go to Source
