In a major political development, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticized the Congress party over the denial of bail to Umar and Sharjeel. Owaisi alleged that Congress is responsible for their continued imprisonment, stating that amendments made by the party to the UAPA law have made bail difficult. He said he had opposed the inclusion of certain clauses at the time, warning they could be misused, but his concerns were ignored. Referring to the phrase “any other means of whatever nature,” Owaisi said the Supreme Court later relied on this wording, resulting in two young men remaining in jail for over five years.
