Dubai is marking two decades of visionary leadership under His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum with an ambitious environmental initiative. Across parks, neighbourhoods, and schools, 20,000 trees will soon be planted, reflecting a commitment to sustainability, community participation, and a greener urban future.

Expanding green spaces across Dubai

In celebration of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed’s 20 years at the helm, Dubai Municipality and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) have unveiled a plan to plant 20,000 trees. This initiative is part of a broader vision that integrates sustainability into Dubai’s ongoing development journey, ensuring environmental stewardship becomes a shared responsibility.Designated planting sites include Al Barsha South, Al Barsha Pond Park, Nakheel Park in Al Aweer, the Quranic Garden in Al Khawaneej, Al Mizhar Second, Blossoms Park at Nad Al Sheba, Al Safa Park in Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz Pond Park, and Al Warqa’a 3. The goal is to enhance urban greenery, improve air quality, and create inviting spaces for communities across the emirate.

Community engagement and educational participation

Schools, universities, and community members will play a central role in this effort. KHDA will coordinate with participating educational institutions to register the tree varieties and quantities they intend to plant. Dubai Municipality will then supply the saplings, ensuring smooth execution and maximum impact. By involving students and educators, the initiative aims not only to expand green areas but also to instil values of environmental responsibility, collaboration, and civic engagement. Each sapling planted in schools today is envisioned as a living symbol of future generations’ gratitude for H.H. Sheikh Mohammed’s visionary leadership.

Leadership vision and strategic impact

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized that the project honours the transformative development journey led by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed. He highlighted that the initiative aligns with the ‘Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033’, particularly the Urban Environment pillar, and strengthens Dubai’s reputation as a sustainable and thriving city.Aisha Abdulla Miran, Director-General of KHDA, noted that the project embodies the values of sustainability, forward-looking education, and community development. She added that the initiative reflects a broader commitment to leaving a lasting legacy, showing how every tree planted contributes to Dubai’s global role in innovation and sustainable urban growth.

Supporting Dubai’s green and sustainable future

The 20,000-tree initiative complements the Dubai Green Project, which focuses on expanding landscaped areas, increasing per capita access to greenery, and promoting a healthier, more liveable environment. By blending sustainable landscaping with the emirate’s distinctive architecture, Dubai aims to create spaces that are both visually striking and environmentally responsible.Through these efforts, Dubai Municipality continues to combat climate change, improve air quality, and enhance the city’s urban landscape.
