Fly in food is ‘part and parcel,’ says Gauri’s restaurant’s co-founder

Gauri Khan's restaurant’s co-founder says finding insect or hair strand in food is 'part and parcel of doing work': 'Nothing can change that'

Gauri Khan’s restaurant Torii was in the news a few months ago after an influencer alleged that it is selling fake paneer. Later, a comment was made by the restaurant’s social media handle on the vlogger’s video that read, “We stand by the purity of our paneer and the integrity of our ingredients at Torii.” However, the eatery is now in the headlines for the statements made by its co-founder, Abhayraj Kohli. In an interview, he talked about the standards maintained by them in the kitchen and more. He stated that finding a fly or hair in the food sometimes is a part and parcel of the work. Let’s read exactly what he said.

In an interview with Pop Diaries, Abhayraj Kohli mentioned how the restaurant uses equipment like a super freezer to store raw meat. He added that very few restaurants have such equipment. He also shared that they not just give importance to cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen but also storage of food. He added that the super freezer doesn’t let any bacteria grow on the raw meat.He went on to say that if one doesn’t have this equipment, they cannot serve food like sushi and more, which require raw meat. In short, the restaurateur stated that high standards are maintained. However, what caught everyone’s attention was his next statement. In the same interview, he went on to say, “And a small, probably a fly or insect or a piece of hair that comes into your food—that’s part and parcel of doing work.” Elaborating on the same, he added that such things happen at homes, and hence, they can occur at restaurants as well. He said, “Nothing can change that.”

More about previous paneer controversy

In an interview with Screen, head chef Stefan Gadit stated that the controversy helped them instead and called it a “blessing in disguise.” He stated that the influencer Sarthak Sachdeva later removed the video after they had a conversation with him and explained how things are done in the culinary world and food science.
