Delhi News: Illegal Encroachment Near Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque Cleared, Mosque Declared Safe Amid Public Fear

Authorities have clarified that the recent bulldozer action near Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in Delhi was strictly aimed at removing illegal encroachments and not at any religious structure. Officials stated that while the constructions were unauthorized, they had become permanent and robust over time, indicating prolonged illegal occupation and commercial use for profit. Visual evidence showed that the encroachment had grown stronger over the years rather than being temporary in nature. During hearings held on December 16, 2025, representatives from the mosque management committee, Delhi Waqf Board, DDA, L&DO, and the tehsildar were present. The committee claimed the mosque and dargah were over 100 years old and part of a larger historical religious complex, including a graveyard. However, authorities noted that no conclusive documentary proof was submitted to establish ownership of the additional encroached land. The demolished structures included a two-storey diagnostic center and a banquet hall built without legal sanction. Officials confirmed that the mosque itself remains completely intact and secure, with no advisory issued to vacate it. Despite this, fear has spread among people associated with the mosque. Several individuals, including worshippers and caretakers, were seen leaving with their belongings, choosing to stay at other mosques temporarily. Police and civic authorities reiterated that the action was lawful and limited to illegal commercial constructions only.
