Political vendetta behind Hadi killing: Chargesheet

Political vendetta behind Hadi killing: Chargesheet

DHAKA: Slain radical Islamic leader and India baiter Sharif Osman Hadi’s party on Tuesday staged a “March for Justice” in support of their four-point demand, including trial of those responsible for his murder and cancelling work permits of all Indians residing in Bangladesh, even as police said he was due to “political vengeance” at Awami League behest.Inqilab Moncho also sought the repatriation of Osman’s alleged killers, who, it claimed, have taken refuge in India, saying that Dhaka should move the International Court of Justice if Delhi refuses to hand them over. “Identifying, arresting and prosecuting fascist collaborators hiding within the Civil Military Intelligence” was also part of its demand. While Indian authorities have dismissed Dhaka’s claims that Osman’s killers crossed into India, saying there was no evidence of illegal border movement, one of the alleged killers, Faisal Karim Masud, denied the charge pinned on him by the Muhammad Yunus-led interim govt and also refuted its assertion that he slipped into India and is there. Masud, in a video, said he was in Dubai.Meanwhile, Bangladesh Police said Osman was killed due to “political vengeance” at the behest of the Awami League, as it pressed formal charges against 17 people in connection with the murder. “Osman was killed on the instructions of Md Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, a former councillor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Ward-6,” said additional commissioner, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch, Shafikul Islam. “Through public rallies and social media, Osman had strongly criticised the past activities of the now-banned Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League and Chhatra League,” he said.
