At least 30 militants affiliated with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed on Thursday after a mosque being used by the group in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was blown up by Pakistani security forces, sources told CNN-News18.

The operation, which also left several others injured, targeted a hideout inside the mosque that had been occupied by TTP fighters. Sources told CNN-News18 the strike was part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the tribal belt, which has witnessed frequent clashes between militants and state forces over the last couple of years.

The Bajaur region, located near the Afghanistan border, has long been a stronghold for TTP-linked groups.

It remains unclear if this is an isolated operation or connected to a targeting of a Pakistani Army convoy in the same area earlier this week.

A powerful explosion targeted a Pakistan Army convoy in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, with initial reports suggesting multiple casualties among security personnel. Firing was also reported in the area immediately after the blast, according to early accounts.

The development was first flagged by OSINT Updates, a social media handle that tracks open-source intelligence (OSINT). The term refers to information collected from publicly available sources such as social media posts, satellite imagery, news reports, and eyewitness accounts.

Videos, whose authenticity News18 could not verify, showed plumes of smoke emanating from an area known as Inayat Kalle, which is Bajaur’s biggest commercial centre.
