In a strong message against electricity theft, the Uttar Pradesh administration conducted a high-intensity surprise drive in Sambhal, led personally by District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya and Superintendent of Police Krishna Bishnoi. Acting on multiple complaints of power theft, the senior officials stepped out late at night and continued inspections till early morning, checking electricity meters across several localities. Accompanied by police teams and power department officials, the DM and SP were seen moving through narrow lanes in the dark, verifying meter connections, identifying illegal hookups, and questioning residents on the spot. Authorities closely examined whether meters were legally registered, properly connected, and free from tampering. Several locations were raided where power theft complaints had been consistently reported. Officials clarified that electricity theft is a punishable offence under the law, with provisions ranging from heavy fines to imprisonment. The administration reiterated its zero-tolerance policy, stating that no form of electricity theft will be tolerated in the district. This late-night enforcement drive highlights the Uttar Pradesh government’s strict stance on safeguarding public resources and ensuring accountability. The administration has warned that such surprise inspections will continue in the future to deter offenders and promote legal electricity usage.
